Hiring a helicopter: common questions

Prices, rules and helicopters differ by country and by company, so confirm the details with the company before you fly.

How do I hire a helicopter?
Pick a company near where you want to fly. Tell them the date, where you want to go, how many people are flying and how much luggage you have. They will tell you which helicopter fits and send you a price. Use the map or the search above to find companies near you.
How much does it cost to hire a helicopter?
Most companies charge by the flight hour. The price depends on the helicopter, the distance, any waiting time and landing fees. Ask for a written quote that lists every fee before you book.
How many people can fly in a helicopter?
Small helicopters carry two to four passengers. Larger ones carry six or more. Weight matters as much as seats, so tell the company each person's weight and the weight of the bags.
Can a helicopter land anywhere?
No. A helicopter needs a safe landing spot and the landowner's permission. Many places also need approval from the aviation authority, and cities have strict rules. The company checks this for you before the flight.
What should I check before I book?
Ask if the company is approved to fly paying passengers in its country. In the United States this is a Part 135 certificate. Ask which helicopter and pilot will fly, and what happens if the weather is bad on the day.
