About Tampa General Hospital Aeromed

Tampa General Hospital Aeromed is the air and ground critical care transport service of Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. It is a hospital programme. Metro Aviation provides the air transport services.

Services

Aeromed does interfacility transfers and scene responses, day and night, every day of the year. A communications center takes requests and sends out air and ground units. It also issues trauma, burn, stroke and STEMI alerts so the hospital can get ready.

By air, the site lists airway care, ECMO support, intra-aortic balloon pump support, temporary pacemakers, LVADs, ventilator care and whole blood for trauma. For newborns it uses temperature controlled incubators with help from the hospital NICU team. The service also moves injured working K9 police dogs.

Aircraft

The air fleet has three helicopter types: the EC 145, the EC 135 and the Bell 407. The site gives no aircraft counts. On the ground, Aeromed runs ambulances for basic and advanced life support transfers.

Who it is for

Aeromed carries adults, teens, children, infants and newborns. It also carries expectant mothers who need advanced obstetric care, and cardiac, stroke, neurological and trauma patients.

The site says Aeromed works with Tampa Fire Rescue, Pasco County Fire Rescue and Manatee County EMS on whole blood transfusions for trauma patients at the scene. It also offers no cost training to EMS partners, first responders and hospitals.
