Elstree Helicopters

Elstree Helicopters is a family run flying school at Elstree Aerodrome in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. It is a CAA approved training organisation for helicopters. The school has taught private pilot training since 1999 and moved to Elstree in 2012.

Students train for the PPL(H) or the LAPL(H). The training fleet includes Robinson R22 and R44 helicopters and a Guimbal Cabri G2. A Bell 206 JetRanger is used for turbine training and turbine ratings.

The Zero to Hero package lets a student go solo in about 25 hours. The school also sells trial lessons on each type, from the R22 to the Cabri G2 and the JetRanger. Trial lessons start from £178 on the site.

Ground school is free each month. Sessions cover radio, navigation and the theory needed for exams, and they suit students, qualified pilots and instructors alike. The school also offers type ratings, turbine ratings and proficiency checks.

Qualified pilots can take self fly hire, and frequent flyers can join Club Elstree for a lower cost way to hire aircraft. The school also runs group trips for students, including UK and French tours, with destinations such as Le Touquet, the Isle of Wight and the Gunton Arms in Norfolk.

The company's founder is also its head of training. He has 29 years of experience and more than 10,000 instructional hours, and he says every student learns in a different way, so lessons are adjusted to each person. The school is a friendly, training focused place to begin a flying career.
