Lomas Helicopters

Lomas Helicopters operates Lake Heliport on the North Devon coast, a family owned heliport that refuels and services helicopters. The site is about 2 nautical miles west of Bideford and is described as a NATO approved heliport accepting civil, military, utility and emergency service helicopters. The company says it has been refuelling helicopters since 1989.

• Jet A1 fuel with FSII (Fuel System Icing Inhibitor), by pressure or gravity refuelling; Avgas is not supplied

• Towed bowsers of 1,000 and 2,000 litres for off site refuelling
• Dedicated H2 level fire and rescue cover, with crew trained in fire and first aid
• Helicopter parking on concrete, grass and perforated surfaces, including a lit concrete area for night use
• Full night landing capability, with a double flashing strobe, two NATO landing T markers and two lit windsocks

Opening hours and access

The office is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and the phones are manned for duty operations. Extended hours up to 24 hours a day are available by prior arrangement. The heliport is at 270 ft above mean sea level, about 6 nautical miles south west of RMB Chivenor.

History

David Lomas set up Lomas Helicopters in 1989, flying from Exeter Airport. The main office moved to the family estate in North Devon in 1992, when Emma joined as operations manager. Over the years the company has flown corporate pleasure flights and scenic tours of the South West, aerial filming for television and film companies, and aerial lifting. Its filming work includes the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 2006 Asian Games in Doha and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
