About aircraft avionics

Aircraft avionics companies

Avionics covers the electronics on board an aircraft: communication and navigation radios, flight displays, autopilots, transponders and ADS-B, collision avoidance and terrain warning systems, emergency locator transmitters and flight data equipment. This category includes both the manufacturers that design these systems and the avionics shops that install, repair and upgrade them. Customers are aircraft owners, operators, airlines, maintenance organisations and aircraft manufacturers.

For installation and repair work, check that the shop holds an FAA Part 145 repair station certificate or EASA Part-145 approval with the relevant avionics ratings, and is an authorised dealer for the equipment you want. Ask whether an STC or other approval already exists for that equipment on your aircraft type, since a one-off approval adds time and cost.

We list 156 avionics companies, most in the United States (90), followed by Canada (15), Germany (12), the United Kingdom (8) and Australia (6).

Avionics work is often done alongside aircraft maintenance, and components can be sourced from aircraft parts suppliers. Flight planning and data tools are listed under aviation software.
