About Inspectoratul General de Aviatie (IGAv), Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs

The General Aviation Inspectorate (Inspectoratul General de Aviație, IGAv) is the air service of the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs. It provides various state aviation services, including emergency medical flights and support for public safety tasks. IGAv operates under the Ministry and works closely with other emergency institutions in Romania.

IGAv oversees several Special Aviation Units across the country. These include units in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca, Iași, Tulcea, and Caransebeș. The organization also manages specialized detachments such as the Aeromedical Detachment and the Training and Improvement Detachment based in Bucharest.

The Aeromedical Detachment flies emergency medical missions to assist people in serious accidents and transfer critically ill patients. It supports emergency medical teams on the ground and is involved in the transportation of organ transplants, search and rescue, and other public safety operations. Medical flights take place within Romania and abroad when needed.

IGAv has a fleet consisting of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. It does not list all aircraft types on the public site but mentions medically equipped helicopters and several operational bases. The aeromedical missions rely on aircraft such as the Piper Cheyenne PA-42 and others, operated from Bucharest and other locations to provide nationwide coverage.

The Inspectorate also runs a public communication office and has a public whistleblower officer. It maintains transparency by publishing information about its budget, acquisitions, and staff income. The operational hours are 8:00 to 16:00, aligning with typical government agency schedules.

The work at IGAv supports the national emergency system linked to the 112 emergency call. The service does not offer flights for private customers but is focused on public safety, emergency response, and medical transportation. It is a key part of the Romanian emergency aviation structure.
