About Bering Air

Bering Air is an air carrier serving Western Alaska and beyond, operating since 1979 with scheduled flights, charters, cargo, ground services and a helicopter department. The helicopter department has been in operation since 1998 and serves state and federal agencies, businesses and individuals. Seating runs from two to five passengers, with several cargo options.

Helicopter services

  • Charter for remote site operations, camps, utility and animal work
  • Remote site logistics: field overnights, equipment handling and storage at company hubs, fuel staging and delivery
  • External loads using slings, baskets, pods and bulk fuel, including 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, generators and tent frames
  • Field, survey and animal work: arctic environment studies, shoreline survey, fish, bird and wildlife surveys and capture, radio tracking and collar retrieval
  • Flightseeing tours

Because Bering Air also runs a fixed wing fleet, it says it can organise an entire operation, from equipment storage in its hubs to a fixed wing charter to a staging airport and then helicopter transport into the field.

  • Bell UH-1H Plus Huey: two in the fleet, refurbished from 1965 airframes, external load up to 3,500 lb
  • AStar (Airbus AS350): four in the fleet, pilot plus five passengers
  • MD500: three in the fleet, up to three passengers
  • Robinson R44: three in the fleet, up to three passengers
