Safety Wings AG

Safety Wings AG is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) in Switzerland that teaches the theory side of pilot training for helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. The company says it has trained helicopter and aeroplane pilots since 1990 and has helped more than 3,000 pilots through basic and further training. It is based in Aadorf and also teaches at Sursee and Altenrhein.

Helicopter courses

• PPL(H): distance learning for private pilots, with about 100 hours of self study at home and at least 9 hours of coaching in small groups, on site or online
• CPL(H): theory for the commercial helicopter licence
• IR(H): instrument rating theory
• ATPL(H) VFR: 13 theory subjects, intended for pilots heading to airline style helicopter work, with at least 550 hours of study at home and at least 47 hours of tuition
• ATPL(H) IFR: the instrument version of the airline transport theory

Students prepare with the study material and a question database, then take a final test at Safety Wings before being registered for the Swiss FOCA (BAZL) examination, which is sat on an iPad at test locations in Switzerland.

• Radiotelephony: RTF VFR, RTF IFR and individual RTF in German or English

How teaching works

Students can start at any time. Besides classroom sessions the school offers an Instructor-Led Virtual Classroom for remote lessons, individual tuition and regular information evenings in Sursee. Its instructors work in aviation as professionals or in their spare time, and the team includes helicopter pilots, airline pilots and an engineer.
