About OFIL Airborne

OFIL Airborne, also known as OFIL Europe, is based in Vienna, Austria. It develops and manufactures high precision multispectral gyrostabilized aerial systems, known as gimbals. The company designs and manufactures inspection systems for utilities and public safety. Its team has more than 20 years of gyro-stabilization expertise, covering mechatronics, electronics, control systems and software.

The main market is power line inspection. The systems use infrared, ultraviolet and optical sensors to find hot spots, corona faults and other defects from the air. Infrared sensors detect hot spots in HD, UV sensors detect UV and corona faults, and zoomable optical sensors analyse faults in 4K and HD video. Each fault is recorded with geo-referenced images of 61 to 120 megapixels.

The company's graphical controller makes data acquisition simpler and saves flight and post processing time. Automated functions include geo-locking, automatic steering and fault detection. OFIL combines its own software, deep sensor integration and artificial intelligence to automate inspections.

The ROM Ultra is a five-sensor system for expert users. It combines 4K video, radiometric infrared, a 61 megapixel still camera, a UV sensor and a laser range finder. The ROM HD is a configurable five-sensor line with fiber optic gyro stabilization, built for various helicopter platforms. The ROMLite HD is a compact four-sensor system with infrared, UV and optical sensors and a laser range finder, for lighter aircraft and heavy duty UAVs and drones.

Customers include electric utilities and grid operators, public safety and firefighting agencies, and oil and gas operators checking for leaks. The company has fielded systems with high profile reference customers on several continents. A news item covers a wildfire mapping collaboration with Nova Maps that uses utility helicopters. A public utility in the USA has praised the ROM system for its build quality, service and customizable design.

OFIL Airborne has shown its systems at DISTRIBUTECH 2026 in San Diego and at Verticon 2026 in Atlanta, the vertical aviation conference. Its partners listed on the site include OFIL Systems, RemoteGeo, Infratec and ASO Group.

The company's mission is to give the energy sector advanced inspection solutions. It aims to deliver dependable, high precision data and to automate inspections for large scale flights and UAVs. The website lists separate contacts for questions, technical support and partnership opportunities.
