About Nihon Flight Safety Co.

Nihon Flight Safety Co., Ltd. (NFS) is a helicopter flight school based at Tokyo Heliport in Shinkiba, Koto-ku. According to its Japanese website it was established in 1989 to send professional pilots into the field. The English site describes the business as pilot training, sightseeing flights and aerial photography.

Pilot training

NFS trains students for private and commercial helicopter licences. Students can choose a course that includes training overseas or one completed entirely in Japan, and enrolment is open all year. The school also offers type rating change training and a PIC time building programme.

Beyond general training, the company says it carries out commissioned training for the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and for police and fire service aviation units. More than 300 graduates are listed, and the school says many fly disaster response helicopters, air ambulance helicopters and cargo helicopters.

Aircraft

The school mainly uses helicopters built by Robinson Helicopter Company. Its aircraft page presents the R22 Beta II, the R44 and the R66 series.

Sightseeing and aerial photography

The English site lists sightseeing flights over Tokyo with day, night, anniversary, dinner cruise and premium options, plus optional extras such as flowers and DVD recording. The company also flies aerial photography for television, commercials and magazines.

Information sessions

Trial school briefings are held on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month from 13:00 to 16:00 at the Tokyo Heliport office, and include a trial flight. Individual consultations can be booked separately.
