Helitak Fire Fighting Equipment Pty Ltd

Helitak Fire Fighting Equipment Pty Ltd is an Australian company founded in 2006 by an engineer who is also a pilot. It designs and manufactures aerial firefighting systems for helicopters. The company is based at Lake MacDonald in Queensland and also has an office in Camarillo, California. Its team is made up of aeronautical engineers and experienced helicopter pilots, who saw ways to improve the efficiency of helicopter firefighting. The site says every piece of equipment is made in house and sourced locally.

Fire tanks

The Helitak fire tank is an underbelly system built for fast water deployment. The shells are made from carbon fibre and epoxy resin, with an internal control and electrical compartment and a failsafe emergency door. A Fire Tank Controller sets and records variable application rates and holds water collection and delivery data. Tanks can be installed or removed in about 25 minutes.

• Light range: tanks such as the FT1300 with a capacity of 1,000 to 1,300 litres and a foam retardant capacity of 95 litres
• Medium lift range: capacities from 1,800 to 3,500 litres, including the FT1800 to FT2500 for Bell medium range helicopters such as the B412, UH-1H and B212
• FT2200 to FT2800 for the Leonardo AW139 and AW189

Hover pumps and buckets

Hover pumps let a helicopter refill its tank from shallow or hard-to-reach water while it hovers.

• HP2000: 2,000 litres per minute, for aircraft with 24 VDC power
• HP6000: 6,000 litres per minute
• HP10000: 10,000 litres per minute, for high volume needs
• SF6000 shallow fill pump: an AC or DC option for long-line bucket operators with larger aircraft

Helitak also makes aerial strike buckets that suit any helicopter, with capacities from 500 litres up to 2,800 litres, for precise drops of water or retardant on wildfires.
