PARA-PORT Doors

PARA-PORT Doors LLC of Tiffin, Ohio, has engineered bottom roll-up aircraft hangar doors since 1960. The PARA-PORT system uses a single lightweight performance membrane panel that rolls upward from the bottom, with no cables, hinges, hydraulics or tracks, and more than 1,000 doors are in service. Original doors installed in the 1960s are still operating today.

How the door works

• A single-panel membrane rises vertically, leaving a clear full-span opening with no side-stacking sections, which can recover usable hangar width and floor area
• A robust drive unit with streamlined mechanics, and major components accessible from ground level
• Lower system weight that reduces the structural demand on the building and can give design teams more flexibility
• Reduced maintenance exposure and operational interference compared with bifold, hydraulic and sliding hangar doors

Project paths

PARA-PORT supports three types of project: replacement of failed, unsafe, obsolete or unreliable conventional doors, where work is sequenced through removal, installation and return to service; new construction, where early specification coordinates the opening, structure, aircraft mix, wind conditions and controls, with guide specifications, typical details and possible LEED points; and planned renewal of ageing doors before they fail closed with aircraft inside. Each system is configured for the opening, structure, environment, aircraft, electrical service and use, and the company provides technical review, installation planning, commissioning, training and owner documentation. Customers include FBOs, MROs, airports, flight departments, architects, engineers and contractors.
