Door Engineering

Aircraft hangar and four-fold door systems since 1966

About Door Engineering

Door Engineering and Manufacturing, LLC designs and builds customised industrial, commercial, aviation and specialty door systems, including aircraft hangar doors. The company was founded in 1966 by Otis Olson in Minneapolis, Minnesota, first specialising in four-fold doors for industrial and commercial buildings before expanding into aviation and other specialty doors. An investment consortium bought the business from the Olson family in 2004, and it is now a brand of Senneca Holdings, a specialty door systems provider with manufacturing in the United States, Europe and Asia whose brands include Chase, Curtron, HMF Express and Subzero Engineering. Door Engineering reports nearly 10,000 door systems installed worldwide over 60 years.

Aircraft hangar doors

  • H-Series bottom rolling aviation doors with northern and southern stacking options, vehicle entry doors, remote and radio controls, vision lites and personnel door openings, built-in or add-on operators and Smart Rail configurations
  • Tip-up doors that maximise hangar building space
  • Rotating aperture doors that let three different aircraft types use the same hangar, with counterweighted, free-floating panels that move with a push, pressure-sensing panels that adjust to the fuselage, automatic brakes and lock arms for high wind loads
  • Smart Door technology upgrades, hangar door refurbishments, replacement parts and custom options

Four-fold and specialty doors

The company's four-fold, sliding and vertical lift doors are built with structural steel framed panels, 14-gauge steel cladding, heavy duty hinges and locks, pre-wired control panels with pushbutton stations and overhead or floor mounted operators with manual disconnect for power failures. Panel layouts can include vision lites, grilles, decorative panelling and wood or composite cladding, and doors can be built for high wind loads and blast requirements up to 27 psi. Fire station and emergency response doors are a further product line.
