Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport

Brazoria County's Part 139 reliever airport and FBO near Houston

About Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport

Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport (LBX) is a FAR Part 139 certificated general aviation reliever airport owned and operated by Brazoria County, Texas, at 8000 Airport Way in Angleton, about three miles north of Lake Jackson and three miles south of Angleton. It serves as the aviation gateway to Brazoria and Harris County and the Houston area, with a county-run full-service FBO, professional pilot amenities and a 7,000 foot grooved concrete runway on 635 acres. The airport is open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, attended by staff from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm on weekdays and from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm at weekends, with a published after-hours call-out number.

History

  • A county site selection study in 1976 identified the current location, and the airport was built between 1979 and 1981 on 435 acres, with Dow Chemical Company donating half of the land and the county buying the rest
  • The original field had a 6,000 foot runway, parallel taxiway, airfield lighting and a precision instrument approach; a 1,000 foot runway extension followed in 1995 to accommodate Dow's larger aircraft, and the runway was reconstructed in grooved concrete in 2009
  • Direct on-airport spending is estimated at 14.1 million dollars a year, more than 16,000 visitors support further payroll and output, and the airport accounts for 244 jobs and a total economic output of about 30.7 million dollars

FBO services

  • Avfuel-branded Jet A and 100LL, with self-serve 100LL available 24 hours, volume discounts above 400 gallons and weekend and holiday self-serve pricing
  • Quick-turn services, ground and passenger handling, GPU at discounted rates with a fuel purchase, temporary hangar storage subject to availability, courtesy car, free Wi-Fi and limousine services
  • Rental cars through Avis and Budget in the terminal, after-hours service at 60 dollars per hour with a two-hour minimum, and the Runway Cafe on site for dining and catering
  • Published FBO fees, zoning ordinances and permit applications, and local flying clubs including the Aviator Collective Flight Club and Coastal Skies Aero Club
