Houston Airport System
City of Houston airport operator: IAH, Hobby, Ellington and Spaceport
About Houston Airport System
Houston Airports is the City of Houston's Department of Aviation. It manages and runs three airports. These are George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Ellington Airport (EFD). Ellington is also the home of the Houston Spaceport.
Together the three airports served over 62 million passengers in calendar year 2025. That is 48.7 million domestic and 13.2 million international. The system offers more than 208 non-stop destinations, with 135 domestic and 73 international routes in 2026.
IAH is about 23 miles north of downtown Houston. It has 26 passenger airlines and five runways. It served over 48 million passengers in 2025, and offers 199 non-stop destinations. HOU is about seven miles south of downtown. It has seven passenger airlines, served 13.9 million passengers in 2025, and has 78 non-stop destinations.
Ellington Airport is about 15 miles south of downtown. It supports the US military, NASA and general aviation tenants. The Houston Spaceport at Ellington is described on the website as the tenth licensed commercial spaceport in the nation.
The department works to bring new routes to Houston and to grow existing service. It runs an air service incentive programme. Route questions can be sent to the air service team by email.
The website also covers cargo facilities and cargo service providers. It has pages on rates and charges, an economic impact study, a statistics dashboard and the airport leadership team. Careers and a newsroom are also listed.
The website describes the system as one of North America's largest public airport systems. It presents Houston as the international passenger and cargo gateway to the south central United States and a main gateway to Latin America. The site lists the Houston Airports newsroom, redevelopment plans, solicitations and advertising opportunities for businesses. Business partners can review the contracting pages.
