Blackwing Sweden AB
Carbon fibre ultralight aircraft with Rotax engines, built in Sweden
About Blackwing Sweden AB
Blackwing Sweden AB builds ultralight aircraft in Sweden. Its current model is the Blackwing BW650, which it describes as its third generation of aircraft. The company says the BW650 is available now.
The first model, the BW600, was a success and drew customers from across Europe. The BW635RG then broke two FAI world speed records in 2023. It flew 398.74 km/h on a closed circuit and 413.28 km/h on a straight course. In 2024 the company moved into a new headquarters facility.
The BW650 is powered by a Rotax 916 iS, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The listed figures include an empty weight of 375 kg and a cruise speed of 190 knots at 65 percent power. The climb rate is 2,500 feet per minute. Take-off distance is 175 m, and landing distance is 290 m with a 50 foot obstacle. The load factor is plus 4.4 and minus 2.2 G.
The design has a retractable carbon hybrid landing gear and an elliptical wing for high manoeuvrability. Wing lights are built into the wing, and a wing step helps pilots climb in. The low-cut glass cockpit gives good visibility. Other details include Hercules 30 lighting, individual brakes for smoother landings and adjustable memory foam seats. Pilot and co-pilot each have a carbon control stick, and the fuel hoses are made of teflon.
The company says it designs, builds and tests almost everything itself. Owners quoted by the company talk about replacing a Cessna P210 with a Blackwing, and about flying to 18 countries in Europe in four years.
Blackwing works with brands such as Rotax, Garmin, Beringer, Flybox, BRS Aerospace and Lechler. A dealer, Zeitmaschine, covers Germany and Austria. Visitors can book a factory visit to see an aircraft up close, and a brochure is available to download.
