Beta-i

Beta-i is an innovation consultancy in Portugal that helps companies grow through collaborative innovation. It works from four cities: Lisbon, Brussels, Boston and São Paulo. It describes itself as the partner of choice for large companies that want to speed up their innovation journey.

The company was formed in 2009 by a team of first movers in the innovation scene in Lisbon. It now has more than 15 years of experience. It says it has solved challenges both inside single companies and across wider ecosystems. Its guiding idea is that the future is made together.

Beta-i offers four groups of services. Innovation Strategy and Consultancy helps a company design the process that will guide its innovation path. This includes opportunity mapping, innovation governance and innovation system design. Corporate Ventures helps firms find ideas and innovators inside the business. It offers internal accelerators, venture building and intrapreneurship programmes.

Open Innovation and Ecosystem Building helps companies and organisations reach new ideas, technology and products from outside. This includes open innovation strategy, ecosystem development and open innovation programmes. The Frugal AI Playbook is a fourth offer. It aims to lower the risk of AI projects by focusing on people, process and momentum. It includes an AI alignment compass, AI strategy, responsible design and AI ecosystem work.

The firm says it prefers doing to talking. Instead of handing over a slide deck, it tests and co-creates with clients. It blends its own methods and adapts them to each project. It also partners with other service providers when a client needs skills it does not have.

Beta-i has worked in many industries. Projects include an effort to improve life for dementia patients and their carers with Roche. Another project helped to change the packaging waste sector. A third is a large innovation programme on the energy transition. Its client list includes airlines, airports and aircraft makers, as well as banks, retailers and energy firms.
