Velocys
Fischer-Tropsch technology licensor for sustainable aviation fuel

About Velocys
Velocys is a technology licensor of Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis for the commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel and eFuels, with teams in Oxford, United Kingdom, London and Houston, Texas. Rather than developing or operating plants, the company supplies the FT synthesis core of a fuel production facility and works alongside project developers, EPC contractors, investors and upstream and downstream technology partners. Its microchannel reactor architecture and highly active catalysts give 6 to 10 times the productivity of conventional FT reactors, reducing unit size, improving yield and lowering cost, and SAF made with Velocys technology was flown commercially by Japan Airlines in 2021.
Technology
- microFTL, an integrated synthesis system that converts synthesis gas (hydrogen and carbon monoxide) into liquid hydrocarbons that are upgraded into FT-SPK sustainable aviation fuel meeting ASTM D7566, renewable diesel and naphtha, requiring no aircraft modification
- AlphaCore microchannel reactor systems, including the AlphaCore 800 for up to about 800 barrels per day (30 kt/a) of FT liquids per reactor for larger SAF plants
- SQRCAT proprietary catalyst, with loading and replacement services
- Integrated Fischer-Tropsch modules for distributed-scale projects
Services and projects
Velocys provides feasibility studies and process design packages, assessment of project fit and scale, process design and integration support, performance testing and optimisation, and commissioning, start-up and operational services, drawing on more than two decades of FT deployment. Its technology has been proven at pilot scale, at SAF demonstration scale and at commercial scale for renewable diesel, with biomass-to-SAF projects in Japan, Austria and the United States, including the Envia plant shown on its site. Feedstock pathways covered include municipal and agricultural waste, biomass gasification to syngas and green hydrogen with captured CO2 for eFuels.
Shows
Velocys appears in the sponsor lists of the Sustainable Aviation Futures MENA Congress 2027 and the Sustainable Aviation Futures North America Congress 2026, where it is listed as a strategic partner.
