About Sacramento County Department of Airports

Sacramento County Department of Airports is a department of Sacramento County in California that runs the county airport system. It describes its work as connecting the region to the world. It runs four airports in the Sacramento area.

Sacramento International Airport, known as SMF, is the main gateway for air travel to California and beyond. Mather Airport, known as MHR, is a former Air Force base. It has the facilities to handle very large cargo loads and gives access to the Northern California market.

Executive Airport, known as SAC, is a general aviation airport that is home to more than 30 businesses. It is close to many tourist spots. Franklin Field, known as F72, is a public use airport owned and run by the department. It sees about 36,000 operations each year, including flight school flights.

The department offers a range of business chances at its airports. These include jobs, concessions, bids and requests, leasing, permits and advertising. It also runs disadvantaged business enterprise programmes. A planning and design area explains its plans for the future of the airport system. Its reports cover economic and financial data, taxicab figures, passenger numbers and cargo numbers.

Safety is handled through a safety management system. This is a formal way to manage safety with a focus on cutting risk before problems happen. People can report a safety concern through an online portal, and they can choose to stay anonymous. The department also publishes airport rules and regulations for SMF.

The department has environment programmes on noise, wildlife management, water conservation and sustainability. Neighbours can send a noise inquiry by email or call an aircraft noise report line. Each comment is saved in a noise comment database. The department also runs community outreach and customer service programmes, and it has a media center for press questions.

Recent news includes the opening of a new restaurant in Terminal B at SMF, which brings dining back before security after more than six years. SMF also won several Gold ADDY awards for its marketing campaigns. The department took part in the Western Region Airport Property Managers event in 2022.
