San Francisco International Airport
City-owned airport serving the San Francisco Bay Area
About San Francisco International Airport
San Francisco International Airport, SFO, is a department of the City and County of San Francisco, which owns and operates it. Its website says the airport is located about 14 miles south of San Francisco in unincorporated San Mateo County, on the San Francisco Peninsula, and that it has operated in the same location since 7 May 1927. The city purchased the land in 1930, and the airport was originally named Mills Field Municipal Airport.
