About Los Angeles World Airports
Los Angeles World Airports, known as LAWA, is the city of Los Angeles body that governs Los Angeles International Airport and Van Nuys Airport. It manages both airports for the people, airlines and businesses that use them.
A Board of Airport Commissioners oversees the organization. The airports are run through several groups and divisions, including airport police and airport operations. Travelers who want flight status or terminal details are sent to the passenger sites for LAX and Van Nuys.
LAWA works with businesses in many ways. It posts current and future business opportunities and explains how to do business with the airports. Its pages cover the contracting process, bid and pre-proposal meetings, administrative rules, contractor responsibility and business inclusivity programs. It also has an investor relations section and a Tenants 411 section for airport tenants.
Airport users can find help with airport badging, ground transportation permits, and rules and regulations. LAWA also publishes news releases and manages public records requests. It runs a construction hotline and a series of comment forms, including one for travelers with disabilities and one for ground transportation.
Large building projects are a major focus. The capital improvement program, called Transforming LAX, includes a new concourse and the LAX Landside Access Modernization Program. LAWA also has a page for LAX air cargo.
Environmental work is a large part of the job. LAWA manages aircraft noise at LAX and at Van Nuys, with a sound insulation grant program. It also monitors air quality and water quality, handles site assessment and hazardous substances, and plans land use. A sustainability program tracks progress with a public dashboard, and mobility programs aim to improve how people travel to and from the airports.
LAWA lists job openings and a hiring program for LAX construction work, and it offers volunteer opportunities.
