OnTime Networks
Rugged Ethernet switches, routers and timing for aerospace and defence
About OnTime Networks
OnTime Networks makes rugged Ethernet switches, routers and timing solutions for ground, air and defence applications. The company was founded in 2000 and describes itself as an innovator in rugged Ethernet for real-time applications in the aerospace and defence industries. It lists phone lines for Europe and the USA, and its site shows an ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
OnTime Networks says it is one of the inventors of IEEE 1588 Transparent Clock technology, a core part of the IEEE 1588-2008 Precision Time Protocol standard. Its products use PTP and the related gPTP standard to give clock accuracy in the sub-microsecond range, and it also supplies the protocol stack as IP for other designs.
Products
- Flight-rated Ethernet switches: the AERO series, built for military aircraft networks and tested to MIL-STD-461E, MIL-STD-1275E and MIL-STD-810G, with models such as the CM-4004, CM-4012 and CM-6200 in D38999 or FAS-T connector versions
- Rugged routers for airborne systems, and rugged routers for ground or shipboard use
- Ground and shipboard Ethernet switches, including 19 inch rack models with an embedded router and GPS time server
- GPS time servers and fully rugged network taps
- The CM-4004 Tactical Grandmaster Clock, with a PTP 1588 grandmaster clock accurate to better than 30 nanoseconds and a built-in GNSS receiver
- Embedded OEM modules and mission management products
Flight test
Test flight programmes are one stated focus. The company says its rugged CM-6200 and CM-4000 series work with any data acquisition system and let test aircraft capture data with precision timing. The units use military temperature grade components, an isolated power supply that protects against surges and spikes, and have no moving parts.
The site names customers for its designs, including a switch chosen by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada for the Canadian Armoured Combat Support Vehicle and a rack-mounted switch picked for the HENSOLDT mobile air surveillance and defence radar system.
