About BlueRoom Simulations

BlueRoom Simulations is an Australian company that makes mixed reality (MR) training systems. Its global headquarters is in Melbourne. It offers a deployable MR medical training platform for defence, aeromedical, EMS and emergency response teams.

Trainees use real equipment, manikins and radios inside virtual aircraft, vehicles, maritime, field and clinical settings. They see their own hands, and no controllers are needed. This helps with skills such as IV cannulation, airway work and surgical procedures.

The company lists several products. These are the Mixed Reality Medical Simulator, the Aeromedical Simulator, the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (MR-TCCC) simulator, BlueRoom Mission Control, BlueRoom Biometrics, extended reality game development and digital twins. The systems use Varjo XR-4 headsets.

Mission Control lets instructors change the environment, the patient, the weather, the lighting and the threats during a scenario. Biometric sensors read the stress of the learner, so the scenario can be made more or less complex. An instructor can change from a C-130 Hercules to an Airbus H160 at the click of a button.

The system is portable. Its basic setup needs two chroma keyed walls and a floor. It can fit inside a 20-foot air conditioned shipping container. The platform was created with support from the Defence Innovation Hub.

Users include the Royal Australian Air Force, paramedic universities in the UAE, and the Dutch Army and Air Force. Systems are available through partners in Australia and New Zealand, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia and North America. The company says its capability was released in 2021 and that it is Australian owned.
