BagID

BagID is an electronic bag tag made by BagID AS of Alesund, Norway, that lets travellers check in their baggage from home on their phone, go straight to bag drop at the airport and track the bag throughout the journey. The company presents it as the next step after the mobile boarding pass: as the paper ticket became a mobile boarding pass, the paper bag tag becomes an electronic bag tag. BagID connects with supported airlines' systems to retrieve baggage information and generate a digital baggage tag, and where an airline is not yet supported the device still works for tracking and as a name tag. How it works

• Attach the BagID to the baggage with the included case and a TSA-approved lock, and connect it to the BagID app
• Add the flight in the app using the booking reference, create the digital bag tag and transfer it to the BagID by Bluetooth
• Go straight to bag drop without a paper tag, and track the bag via the Apple Find My or Samsung SmartThings Find networks; BagID is a certified third-party accessory for both
• Customise the tag's background with art from Inzpero and optional text from within the app, and choose from a range of casings

The BagID 2 comes in an Apple version for iOS devices and a Samsung version for Galaxy devices; digital check-in works from any smartphone that supports the app, while tracking depends on the version. It ships with a premium leather attachment case that can be moved between bags, an optional TSA padlock, and a code for a first year of the Premium Individual subscription, after which users can continue, cancel or switch to pay-per-use.
