Unseenlabs
Space-based RF detection for maritime and multi-domain awareness

About Unseenlabs
Unseenlabs is a French space company providing satellite-based radio frequency (RF) detection for maritime monitoring, vessel identification and multi-domain situational awareness, headquartered at 15 rue Claude Chappe in Cesson-Sévigné near Rennes, with offices in Singapore (Unseenlabs Space Pte. Ltd.) and Pittsboro, North Carolina (Unseenlabs Inc.). Founded in 2015 by brothers Jonathan Galic, a signals intelligence specialist, and Benjamin Galic, a business lawyer, the company has launched 25 satellites since BRO-1 in 2019, employs more than 150 people and has raised 7 million euros (2018), 20 million euros (2021) and 85 million euros (2024) in three funding rounds.
Technology
- Satellites intercept electromagnetic signals emitted by communication and navigation equipment on ships, then geolocate and characterise each RF signature using what the company describes as a one-of-a-kind monosatellite approach
- Detection of uncooperative dark vessels that switch off or manipulate declarative systems such as AIS or VMS, addressing the problem that ship positions are often unknown or inaccurate
- In July 2026 the launch of BRO-31, the first second-generation satellite, extended coverage to a broader range of RF signals and environments across sea, land and space domains
Solutions
- RF data on every detected emitter, delivered as standard-format files for each collection
- Analytics and data fusion services to identify dark vessels, and intelligence reports giving in-depth situational context
- Services for governments and private companies, from control of territorial waters and exclusive economic zones to monitoring vessels, areas or assets of interest, with business and trade intelligence applications
- Customisable monitoring of areas of interest at sea to optimise customers' own surveillance resources
Milestones
The company's timeline runs from its creation in 2015 through the first launch and official start of business in 2019, the BRO-10 and BRO-11 launches in 2023, the BRO-12 and BRO-13 launches with the third funding round in 2024, a new Singapore office and BRO-18 launch in 2025, and BRO-31 in 2026, with BRO-23 and BRO-32 launched together more recently. Partners and backers shown on its site include ESA BIC Nord, GICAN, GICAT, Alliance NewSpace, the Fonds Innovation Défense, Bpifrance, Definvest, Supernova Invest and Isalt. Unseenlabs takes part in conferences and events worldwide and offers meeting bookings with its team.
