TACONIC International

Taconic International Ltd, based in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, manufactures PTFE and silicone rubber coated glass fabrics, self-adhesive tapes and conveyor belts, and describes Taconic as the largest manufacturer of PTFE coated fabrics and tapes in the world. Taconic was founded in 1961 by Lester T. Russell, the acknowledged inventor of the process of applying PTFE to woven fibreglass, who started the company with his wife Virginia in Petersburgh, New York; his son Gordy joined in the mid-1960s and grandson Andy Russell is chief executive today. In 1977 Lester founded Taconic International in Mullingar to handle manufacturing and sales outside the Americas, and the European business has since added Taconic UK, now at Burgess Hill in West Sussex, Taconic France near Annecy, Taconic Germany near Cologne and a plant in Brazil.

Aerospace and composites

• Non-stick PTFE glass release materials and adhesive tapes for composite manufacturers, used in closed moulding under pressure and heat and in open moulding with hand lay-up and vacuum resin distribution
• Materials for aerospace composite parts such as moulded profiles and interior panels, including panels around cabin windows, taking advantage of composites' strength, flexibility and light weight
• Thermal spray masking tapes, fabrics and compounds, including abrasive blasting masking, and new TacMesh, TacPolyU and TacMach products
