Miami International Airport
America's busiest international freight airport and gateway to Latin America

About Miami International Airport
Miami International Airport (MIA) sits on 3,230 acres near downtown Miami and is operated by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department as the property of Miami-Dade County government. Founded in 1928, it is America's busiest airport for international freight and second busiest for international passengers, and it offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other US airport. Among worldwide airports it ranks fourth for international freight and for total cargo, third for total freight and 39th for international passengers, according to the statistics on its website. The airport is funded primarily through airport-generated revenues such as airline fees, concessions, parking and bonds backed by those revenues, with no direct funding from local taxpayers.
