Belgium's main airport and European pharma cargo hub

Brussels Airport

About Brussels Airport

Brussels Airport is the main airport of Belgium, connecting the European capital to destinations across the world. It is operated by Brussels Airport Company NV/SA, which employs more than a thousand people and has its registered office at Topos Merode, Priester Cuypersstraat 3, 1040 Etterbeek. The airport lies north-east of Brussels on the territory of Zaventem, Machelen, Steenokkerzeel and Kortenberg and covers 1,245 hectares. It opened some 60 years ago and describes itself as a human-scale, customer-centric airport with a Belgian touch, from shops and restaurants carrying Belgian products to Tintin's rocket in the Connector building and the Smurfs plane at the Gates B shopping area.

Infrastructure

The runway system has three runways arranged in a Z shape: the parallel runways 07L/25R (3,638 m) and 07R/25L (3,210 m) and the transverse runway 01/19 (2,987 m), all usable in both directions. Because the prevailing wind is from the south-west, aircraft usually take off towards the west and land from the east, with a federal preferential runway system applied at night and weekends to spread noise. Airport traffic figures, infrastructure details, annual reports and press releases are published on the site.

Cargo

The airport runs a cargo community with information on cargo flight arrivals and departures, contacts and services. It has an animal care and inspection centre and positions itself as a European pharmaceuticals hub.

Strategy

The company's strategic plan, Shift 2027, sets the vision of being the preferred partner in delivering smart connectivity solutions in a sustainable and customer-centric way. It rests on better performance as a hub for passengers and goods, diversification into new activities and alliances, and sustainability, with a target of Net Zero Carbon by 2030 at the latest, support for sustainable aviation fuel, energy-efficient buildings, public transport and tariff differentiation that favours low-noise aircraft. A Hub 3.0 programme prepares the airport of tomorrow.

Passengers

The website provides a pre-travel checklist, flight search, online parking reservations, luggage and lost property services, security screening guidance, a journey planner for transport to and from the airport, live waiting times and the free Enjoy loyalty programme, in which members earn Hearts for comfort services and extras.

Shows

Brussels Airport appears in the exhibitor, sponsor and speaker lists of Air Cargo Europe 2027, the IATA Slot Conference 2026 and the TIACA Air Cargo Forum 2026.
