Lebronze Alloys

Specialty copper alloys for aerospace, space and naval applications

Lebronze Alloys

About Lebronze Alloys

Lebronze alloys (LBA) is a French integrated producer of specialty copper alloys and other performance materials for critical applications. With more than 90 years of history and sites including Suippes in north-eastern France, the group covers the whole production cycle from foundry (continuous and semi-continuous casting) through cold rolling, drawing, heat treatment, forging and machining to non-destructive testing, so it can supply semi-finished bars, hollow bars, rods, wires, strips, sheets and complex profiles as well as finished parts. It sells through distributors on every continent and a subsidiary in Germany.

Aerospace and space

For more than 50 years LBA has supplied specialty copper alloys to the aerospace industry and says it now serves major aircraft, helicopter, space launcher and satellite manufacturers in 45 countries, holding the largest number of copper alloy approvals in aeronautics and space, including a Latecoere raw material QPL approval for the Suippes site. Typical uses include K7 copper-nickel-aluminium alloy in helicopter flap systems and bushings, free-machining alloys in connectors, and Hardiall CuNi15Sn8 (AMS 4596 to 4598) for light, high-reliability satellite parts, alongside electromagnetic shielding materials for electronics.

Alloy families

  • Nickel-aluminium bronzes NC4 (C63000, AMS 4640), NCS (C63020, AMS 4590), CA104, AMS 4880 and AMS 4881 for strength, wear and corrosion resistance
  • Copper-nickel-aluminium alloys K5 (ASNA 6127), K5B (DEF STAN 02-835) and K7 (WL 2.1504) for fatigue resistance and non-magnetic behaviour
  • ARCAP copper-nickel-zinc alloys, Cupro-U CuCrZr for high conductivity, C97 for connectors, Si45Z copper-silicon (AMS 4616) and ZA9 high-strength brass
  • Constantan 45 TCR and other current sensing and precision resistance alloys, and the ZeST zero-lead special turning range

Other markets

LBA products are used in high temperature, pressure and wear resistant industrial parts, valve train components, seawater circuit components and naval alloys such as NAVINIC and NICLAL 400 shown at Euronaval, oil and gas HPHT parts, electric motors and generators, hydrogen storage and distribution and railway components. Its R and D team designs new alloys and advises customers on materials and processes to reduce total cost of ownership, and the group publishes product catalogues and quality information.
