Aviramp

Aviramp is an independently owned manufacturer in Telford, UK, that makes boarding ramps and bridges for aircraft parked on remote stands. It builds access and loading systems for airlines, airports and ground handling companies. The company began in 2010 and received a 2021 Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade.

The business started when a client saw its aluminium access ramps and portable aircraft steps. The client asked if Aviramp could design a ramp for disabled passengers leaving aircraft on remote stands. The company said yes. With support from easyJet's ground support management, it tested the design at Bristol Airport. The first test passenger, who usually needed an Ambulift, walked down the ramp alone.

Aviramp now makes five boarding ramps. The International ramp suits wide-body aircraft from the A380 down to the A320. The Continental ramp suits aircraft from the A320 to the EMB170. The Regional ramp suits the B737, Embraer and CRJ. The Domestic ramp suits small aircraft such as the CRJ, EMB145, ATR 72 and 42 and Q400. The Lite ramp suits the EMB145, SAAB 340, ATR 72 and 42 and Q400. The company also offers a wheelchair lifter, optional extras and compatibility charts.

All ramps carry a 10 year structural warranty. One person can operate them, and they can run on solar power or diesel. The slopes are gentle for wheelchair users. The company says its ramps are made to the guidelines in Section 913 of the Airport Handling Manual. It says independent trials showed on-time performance improved by 30 percent against other ground equipment.

The first commercial installations were at Pierrefonds Airport in La Reunion, Perpignan Airport in France and Dallas Fort Worth in the United States. Today the ramps serve airlines, airports and ground handlers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe. They are also in service in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands.

Aviramp worked with Delta Air Lines and the Best Defense Foundation to donate an International ramp to Deauville Airport in Normandy for veterans of the D-Day landings. The company's website is available in English, French and Spanish, with a US version.
