AAT Automation GmbH is a Karlsruhe, Germany, automation company that develops, implements and maintains baggage loading and unloading systems for airports, alongside conveyor technology, robotics and driverless transport systems for other industries. With more than 30 years of experience, more than 40 automation and robotics specialists and over 500 projects since its founding, the company applies computer vision, machine learning, web-based HMI and AGV technologies to its solutions.

• ABLE Mk2 (Automated Baggage Loading Equipment Mark 2): camera-based object detection and optimised cell geometry to load passenger baggage fully automatically into ULDs and carts, removing repetitive manual lifting
• ABLE Mk1: the predecessor, in operation for over a decade at two of Europe's largest airports, where more than 60 million bags have been loaded automatically at Amsterdam Schiphol and London Heathrow
• ABULS (Automated Baggage Unloading System): unloads baggage carts and transfers bags to the existing conveyor system, integrating into existing airport layouts with energy-efficient drive and sensor technology

Company

Managing director Roman Kaiser says the ABLE Mk2 and ABULS technologies demonstrate the company's expertise in airport robotics. AAT is an Airport Lab Network partner of the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group, has hosted visits from Fraport, Lufthansa, Eurowings and Rockwell Automation to discuss future airport technologies, and presented at the ACI-NA Annual Conference 2024. Other sectors served include logistics and recycling.
