Tulip Tech
High-density batteries for drones and unmanned vehicles
About Tulip Tech
Tulip Tech is based in Den Bosch in the Netherlands and specialises in battery packs and power electronics for drones and other unmanned vehicles. The company was founded in 2020 with the goal of speeding up the impact of drones and electrification by building better performing battery systems. It lists its key values as performance, partnership and reliability, and it builds its packs in Europe.
The site argues that the power source limits an unmanned vehicle more than any other part. It says off-the-shelf packs stall at around 250 Wh/kg, while Tulip sources high-density cells, including silicon-anode packs reaching up to 600 Wh/kg. The company claims 30 to 100 percent more range and endurance from the same weight and footprint, and a field failure rate under 1 percent.
Three ways to power a drone
- The high-density standard: packs already proven across the drone market and available now, an upgrade that does not change the vehicle
- Built to the customer's form factor: the same high-density performance, with the pack shaped around the platform instead of the other way round
- Fully managed smart batteries: packs built around the platform with a management system that also regulates temperature
How packs are made
Tulip works as an extension of the customer's team. It plans the project, picks the cell from thousands of options across more than 50 suppliers, models performance on the platform before building, and then tests through laboratory and field evaluation. Each pack is validated for voltage, internal resistance and capacity, ships with its own datasheet and is certified to UN38.3. Production can reach up to 100,000 packs per year per product, and packs travel in UN-certified packaging with compliance documents and tracking.
Customers and news
The site says the company serves UAVs, ground vehicles and submersibles, and that over 250 customers depend on it, including NASA. Case studies include DeltaQuad, whose tactical drone reached longer flight times with Tulip lithium-metal batteries, and the Acecore Noa, which flies 77 minutes at a 1 kg payload with a 39 Ah lithium-metal pack.
