Titania

Titania, Ensayos y Proyectos Industriales S.L. operates laboratories for the study and analysis of materials, used for industrial quality control and research and development. The company is based in the Tecnobahia industrial park in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz, in Spain. Its origins lie in the Corrosion and Protection Group of the University of Cadiz. In 2000 the plants of EADS-CASA, now Airbus, decided to outsource certain quality control testing, and the university group was one of the teams that took the work on.

History

• 2000 to 2003: the first test procedures were introduced for metallic materials, and process control testing of aluminium alloys and technical reception of materials were consolidated
• 2005: a new laboratory was set up for quality control testing of sealants
• 2006: Titania was created from the university laboratory work, and the first laboratory opened in a 300 square metre warehouse
• 2009: equipment for characterising composite materials was added, later reinforced with an autoclave
• 2013: the first work for companies outside Spain
• 2017: investment and commercial action to move beyond aeronautics into naval, metallurgical and wind energy sectors
• 2018: a sales office in the United Kingdom, which led to work at the Airbus plant in Filton

Facilities and mission

As a result of research and development projects, Titania installed a line for the surface treatment of metal alloys and a paint booth certified by Airbus. Together they allowed it to offer a service that supplies test panels. The company now has more than 60 qualified staff and laboratories covering 3,000 square metres, ten times the original area. It says it works with more than 500 companies on four continents.

Its stated mission is to provide accredited technical information on materials and industrial processes to support industrial decisions, and to give scientific and technological support to industry as it adapts toward sustainable development.
