Tempest Aero Group

Tempest Aero Group is a general aviation parts company based at 2208 Air Park Drive, Burlington, North Carolina. It is the hub for six brands that make ignition, filtration and pneumatic products, fuel systems and components, instrumentation probes and sensors, fuel pumps and specialty tools for aircraft OEMs and the aftermarket: Tempest, Alcor, Marvel-Schebler, Precision Airmotive, Consolidated Fuel Systems and Stratus Tool Technologies. The group provides sales, marketing and engineering support to these affiliate companies, which have manufacturing facilities in Burlington, North Carolina, Arlington, Washington and San Antonio, Texas.

Brands and products

• Tempest: spark plugs, oil filters, dry air pumps and pneumatic systems, fuel pumps, oil filter adapters and specialty tools. The Tempest brand was founded in 2001 by Stan Fletcher and Tim Henderson for products made by Aero Accessories, LLC (trading as Tempest Plus, website aeroaccessories.com), a company Tim Henderson started in 1984 as an accessory overhaul shop. Tempest products include the Tornado dry air pump, the fired-in resistor spark plug and Spin-EZ gasket oil filters.
• Alcor: exhaust gas temperature (EGT), cylinder head temperature (CHT) and turbine inlet temperature probes and sensors.
• Marvel-Schebler: factory new, rebuilt and overhauled aircraft carburetors, replacement parts and kits.
• Precision Airmotive: RSA fuel injection servos, flow dividers and nozzles, with replacement parts and kits.
• Consolidated Fuel Systems and Stratus Tool Technologies: fuel system components and specialty tools for general aviation.
• Oil filter adapters that convert oil screens to a spin-on Tempest oil filter for a range of engines.

Cirrus

Tempest Plus lists Cirrus among the OEMs that use Tempest products. Its AeroGuard induction air filter application chart on aeroaccessories.com includes the Cirrus SR20 (serial 2339 and up, Tempest part AA198290) and the SR22T (part AA27166-001). Tempest spark plugs, oil filters and fuel pumps are sold through distributors for the Continental and Lycoming engines fitted to SR20, SR22 and SR22T aircraft; owners should check the Tempest application charts for the exact part number for their engine.

Services and approvals

• FAA repair station work: complete overhaul of RG Lear Romec fuel pumps and Continental fuel injection systems.
• Quality systems at the affiliate companies that comply with FAA Part 21 and Part 145 requirements; each of the three facilities can test and repair the group's products.
• In-house machine shop with CNC lathes, 3 and 5 axis mills and Swiss and Acme screw machines, automation for sub and final assembly, and inspection with coordinate measuring machines.

Facility

Most of the affiliate companies manufacture at the group's 100,000 square foot North Carolina headquarters. Technical support, product line management and customer service are run from Burlington, with direct extensions for each brand published on the group's support page.
