About Garmin Aviation

Garmin Aviation is the aviation business of Garmin Ltd., which has designed and sold navigation, communication and information devices since 1989, many of them enabled by GPS. Garmin International Inc., the US operating subsidiary, is based in Olathe, Kansas. Garmin Ltd. is incorporated in Switzerland with principal subsidiaries in the United States, Taiwan and the United Kingdom, and the group reports more than 22,000 associates in 37 countries across its aviation, automotive, marine, outdoor and fitness businesses.

Products

Garmin's aviation range covers general aviation, business aviation, experimental aircraft, helicopters, and government and defence customers. Product categories listed on its site include:

  • Integrated flight decks, including the G1000 and G5000, and AXIS flight displays for experimental and certified piston aircraft
  • Navigation and radio units, flight displays and standby instruments such as the GI 275
  • GFC series autopilots, including the GFC 700 fitted to Cirrus Perspective aircraft
  • Engine indication systems, audio panels, ADS-B transponders, weather and traffic products
  • Datalinks and connectivity, including the GDL 60 and PlaneSync
  • Portable GPS units and the D2 series aviator watches
  • Garmin Pilot, flyGarmin, FltPlan, a safety management system and aviation database services

Garmin's Autonomí safety features include Emergency Autoland. The company's newsroom reports that more than 2,500 aircraft are equipped with Autoland, and that the Cirrus Vision Jet's Safe Return system was the first jet application of the technology to be certified by the FAA, in 2020.

Cirrus

Garmin builds the Cirrus Perspective and Perspective+ flight decks. In May 2008 Garmin announced that Cirrus Aircraft would offer Cirrus Perspective, Garmin's all-glass integrated flight deck, on the SR22-G3, with 12-inch primary and multifunction displays, dual solid-state AHRS, the GFC 700 autopilot, synthetic vision, a GCU 478 keypad and a LEVEL mode. The two companies had worked together since the late 1990s, when the GNS 430 was selected for the SR20 panel. In July 2025 Garmin announced the Cirrus Perspective+ flight deck upgrade for SR Series G3 and G5 aircraft (SR20, SR22 and SR22T with the original Perspective system), adding 10-inch or 12-inch displays, a QWERTY keypad, Runway Occupancy Awareness, stabilised approach advisories and an autopilot controller with automatic yaw damper, installed under STC through Garmin dealers and Cirrus factory service centres. EASA certification of the Perspective+ upgrade followed in April 2026. Garmin also publishes a Cirrus SR2x cockpit reference guide for Perspective aircraft.

Garmin Pilot and Connext

Garmin Pilot is Garmin's electronic flight bag app for iOS and Android, sold by subscription, with flight planning, charts, weather, traffic, logbook and weight and balance functions. Garmin Connext is the wireless link between the app and the aircraft's avionics. FltPlan.com, also a Garmin company, states that FltPlan Go users can display ADS-B traffic, weather and GPS data from compatible Garmin ADS-B products and transfer flight plans to the Garmin Pilot app and selected Garmin avionics through Connext. Garmin's product pages for these are JavaScript rendered, so the details above are from the FltPlan.com site and Garmin's aviation apps menu.
