REIDsteel

REIDsteel is a UK structural steel company that designs, makes and builds steel buildings. Aircraft hangars are one of its main specialities. The company says it was founded in 1919 by Col. John Reid and began making aircraft hangars in the 1920s.

The company handles the full steel frame and the building envelope in house. This covers primary steel, secondary steel, cladding, architectural glazing and doors. It also supplies electro-mechanical vehicle doors and hangar doors. The site says one team manages design, fabrication and installation, so the parts fit together.

The site lists many project types. It names more than 180 aircraft hangars and airport terminal buildings. It also lists more than 150 bridge and infrastructure structures, more than 140 offices and commercial buildings and more than 300 industrial warehouses. Other work includes stadia, hospitals, housing, car parks and defence structures. The company also designs buildings to withstand earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes.

Aviation work is easy to see in its recent projects. These include a helicopter maintenance hangar in the UK with space for up to 32 helicopters. Another is a Bombardier aircraft hangar with a twin cantilever design. The company won a BCSA Structural Steel Design Award in 2022 for a large twin cantilever hangar at Biggin Hill Airport. The firm says it has shipped steel structures to more than 140 countries. Many structures are designed to fit standard 40 foot shipping containers. The company has also won four Queens Awards, one for export achievement and three for enterprise and international trade.
