About RedTail Flight Academy

RedTail Flight Academy is a flight school that began as a charity inspired by the Tuskegee Airmen. It is based at New York Stewart International Airport. The site says the program started as the Lee A. Archer Jr. Red Tail Youth Flying Program, an all volunteer effort that has reached 861 young people so far.

The school now trains pilots of all backgrounds. Courses run from private pilot through commercial certification. The site also lists instrument rating and flight instructor courses, and a private pilot option for people who only want to fly for fun. It says its instructors are veterans with thousands of flight hours. The school describes a 14 CFR Part 141 program and says training at Stewart gives students experience in controlled airspace, where airlines operate. Visitors can send a form to ask for a discovery flight.

The fleet page says the school wants to train pilots who can fly anything, so the fleet spans generations. It includes new Piper 100i trainers with a glass cockpit.

The school keeps its mission to honor the Tuskegee Airmen. It offers scholarships to young people who are underrepresented in aviation, and it uses mentoring for youth who face hardship. The site says 252 scholarships have been given, worth 275,000 dollars in awards. For other students, it has partnered with lenders such as AOPA Finance and Sallie Mae, and it helps with scholarships from groups such as the AOPA Foundation and EAA. A financing guide is available through a form.

The director of training is Phillip Wojtowicz, who holds CFI and CFII certificates. The main contact is Glendon Fraser, and the phone number is 855-745-6811. The site also shows a golf fundraiser, the 28th Annual Golf Classic on August 17, 2026.
