PionAirLaw, The Pionair Law Firm, S.L., is a Madrid law firm founded in 2022 that works exclusively for airlines, both national and international carriers. Based at Jose Abascal 44 in Madrid, it offers a specialised service in aviation, civil, administrative, corporate and criminal law, combining legal expertise with technology to save clients time and money. Experience

• Defending more than 25,000 passenger claims for European and non-European carriers under the Montreal Convention 1999 and Regulation EC 261/2004, including more than 5,500 claims defended in court in 2023 alone
• Participating in investigations by the Spanish ICAO Annex 13 bodies CIAIAC and CITAAM, and defending litigation arising from major air accidents in Spain since 2008
• Assisting with AESA inspections on route deviations and other sanctioning proceedings, defending consumer, immigration and aviation law sanction proceedings before the Spanish authorities, and appealing AESA decisions on Covid-19 refunds
• Updating general conditions of carriage and EC 261 leaflets for Spanish law, supporting the new alternative dispute resolution procedure in Spain, taking legal action against unruly passengers and advising on multijurisdictional disputes
• Negotiating real estate contracts, reviewing travel agent and loyalty programme contracts, defending cargo and liability cases including passenger falls and light aircraft accidents, and structuring international airlines' legal presence in Spain

Industry involvement

The firm takes part in aviation industry associations including IATA, the International Aviation Women's Association (IAWA), the European Air Law Association (EALA), the Ibero-American Institute of Air and Space Law and EVA, supports the Ibero-American market and advocates gender equality in aviation. It publishes commentary on topics such as the 2026 reform of Regulation EC 261/2004, the jet fuel supply crisis and geopolitical risk to aviation, and it follows a corporate social responsibility programme that includes going paperless and partnering with foundations and NGOs such as Fundacion Juan XXIII.
