About Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein

Arnecke Sibeth Dabelstein is a German business law firm with offices in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leer, Berlin, Munich and Dresden. It covers 25 areas of law. Real estate, transportation, aviation and logistics, and maritime law are among its main fields.

The firm has about 100 lawyers, notaries and tax advisers, and more than 200 staff in total. Its teams advise on labour and employment, insurance, corporate and M&A, banking and finance, intellectual property, IT, commercial, public and antitrust law. It also has a tax team and a notary office, with notaries in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin, Leer and Dresden. Energy, insurance, technology and media, and sports law are growing areas.

Transportation, aviation and logistics is one of the firm's core fields. Its commercial team drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts for distribution, supply, transport, warehousing and logistics. It also handles leasing and financing contracts, outsourcing contracts, and questions on warranty and liability. Foreign clients get advice on doing business in Germany and Europe.

Dispute resolution is one of the firm's services. The firm acts in German state courts and before the European Court of Justice. It handles national and international arbitration, and it knows the rules of major arbitration bodies such as ICC, DIS, LMAA, GMAA and CAS. It also represents clients in mediation and other ways of settling disputes outside court. Some partners act as arbitrators, mediators and conciliators. After a ruling, the firm helps enforce it in Germany and abroad.

The firm has a history of about 90 years. It grew from three medium-sized firms that merged. These were Dabelstein & Passehl in Hamburg, founded in 1930, Arnecke Siebold in Frankfurt, founded in 1995, and Sibeth in Munich, founded in 2005. In the era of steam-powered shipping, the firm already advised shipping companies, shipyards, importers and exporters. That early work built its base in shipping, transport and insurance law.

The firm belongs to global legal networks, including Interlaw and Legal Netlink Alliance. These give it contacts with specialist law firms worldwide, so it can coordinate cases across borders. Its aviation links include the European Business Aviation Association, the European Air Law Association, the Institute of Air and Space Law and the International Union of Aerospace Insurers. It is also a member of the International Bar Association and the Comité Maritime International.

Two managing partners run the firm. Departments for finance, communications, human resources and IT support them, along with office managers in each location. The firm keeps short communication lines and flat hierarchies. It supports sport, art and culture, and runs a summer school and a shipping and marine insurance scholarship programme.
