About Airlines for America

Airlines for America, also called A4A, is an industry group that speaks for U.S. passenger and cargo airlines. It works on policy for the U.S. airline industry. Its priorities are modernization, safety and security, jobs, global significance and sustainability.

A4A pushes for a modern air traffic control system. It asks Congress to approve the funding needed to update the current system. It also asks Congress to pay federal aviation workers during government shutdowns, because essential employees keep working unpaid. Another campaign asks senators to protect airline credit card rewards that millions of Americans use to earn points for travel.

The group makes the case for competition among airlines. It says fares have fallen almost 50 percent, adjusted for inflation, since deregulation. It adds that nearly 90 percent of Americans have taken a flight. It also runs a campaign against what it calls a hidden tax on airline tickets that airports want to raise.

On safety, the group says airlines work closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and other partners to reduce the effect of bad weather on air travel. On the environment, its Airlines Fly Green program covers how the industry works to cut emissions and find sustainable solutions. It has a partnership with the California Air Resources Board to help roll out sustainable aviation fuel.

A4A also publishes data. It reports that U.S. passenger and cargo airlines directly employ more than one million workers. It says air transportation employees earned average wages 53 percent higher than the average private sector worker in 2025.

The group takes part in international issues too. It has backed a six-point plan from Airlines for Europe and ACI EUROPE on the EU entry and exit system. It runs the Nuts and Bolts Awards, shares news on a blog called A Better Flight Plan, sells publications and subscriptions, and runs the ATA e-Business program. Its Airlines Give Back page covers member work with community programs and global relief missions.
