About OMV

OMV Aktiengesellschaft is an integrated energy, fuels and chemicals company headquartered at Trabrennstrasse 6-8 in Vienna, Austria. Its story began in 1956 and it now describes itself as transitioning to an integrated sustainable energy, fuels and chemicals company under its Strategy 2030, with a 51.2 percent stake in OMV Petrom in Romania and a 50 percent stake in Borouge Group International. For the aviation sector OMV is a jet fuel supplier in Central and Eastern Europe, with kerosene produced locally at its own refineries and delivered by pipeline to airport fuel storage, and it is building a large-scale sustainable aviation fuel and HVO production facility at the Petrobrazi refinery in Romania, under construction since February 2025.

Aviation fuel supply

  • Jet fuel for airports served from Vienna, Munich and Bucharest, with kerosene refined locally and, in Austria and Romania, oilfields connected directly to the refineries by pipeline
  • Management of the entire supply chain, from production, storage and logistics to in-plane service, which the company describes as a complete 360 degree service package
  • Regional support teams, flexible delivery methods and a digital customer journey, with expertise on changing market conditions and regulatory requirements

Sustainable aviation fuel

  • SAF made from used cooking oil that is collected, pre-treated, hydrotreated at the refinery and blended with kerosene before delivery to the airport, reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by over 80 percent compared with conventional kerosene
  • Blending facilities at the Schwechat refinery in Austria to meet the ReFuelEU Aviation mandate of 2 percent SAF, rising stepwise to 70 percent by 2050
  • The new SAF and HVO plant at Petrobrazi, expected to make OMV Petrom the first major producer of renewable fuels in Southeast Europe
  • SAF Business Solutions, a programme developed with International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) that lets companies buy certificates linked to SAF use for Scope 3 reporting of business travel and air freight; former tennis professional Dominic Thiem is cited as a user for his business air travel

Group targets

Strategy 2030 sets targets of a 30 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 20 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions, with the aim of becoming a net-zero business by 2050. Other group projects include the Neptun Deep gas project in the Black Sea, the deeep geothermal joint venture for district heating in Vienna, the eMotion cross-border charging network in Central and Eastern Europe, and about 1,000 OMV filling stations in seven countries serving more than 650,000 customers daily. The corporate identity introduced in June 2024 won the Red Dot Award, the Corporate Design Prize, the German Design Award and the iF Design Award.
