Honeywell UOP
Ecofining and eFining technologies for sustainable aviation fuel

About Honeywell UOP
Honeywell UOP is an international supplier and technology licensor for petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical production and renewable fuels. Part of Honeywell's Performance Materials and Technologies business group, UOP has been solving energy challenges since 1914, holds more than 3,000 active patents and has shaped the refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries over more than a century by turning laboratory chemistry into industrial processes. Its technologies produce the fuels that power cars, trucks, jets and trains, the natural gas that heats homes, and the resins, films and fibres used in consumer goods, and it now focuses on what it calls the energy transition at any pace.
Sustainable aviation fuel
- Ecofining technology converts inedible fats, oils and greases into renewable diesel and renewable jet fuel; a single-stage version offers a fast-to-market, lower capital route for repurposing underutilised hydrotreating units
- UOP eFining produces low carbon intensity eSAF from green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, with high SAF yield and selectivity, minimised capital cost and plot space, and modular units to speed execution
- Ethanol-to-jet and RTP pyrolysis pathways for corn and sugarcane ethanol and woody biomass feedstocks
- SAF is approved for use in aircraft when blended up to 50 percent with conventional jet fuel, and UOP provides refinery engineering and design services for conversions and revamps
Other technologies and services
UOP's portfolio includes hydroprocessing for hydrotreating and hydrocracking, catalysts, molecular sieve and activated alumina adsorbents for purification, a zeolite adsorbent for direct air capture of CO2, carbon capture via fractionation deployed with ExxonMobil at Baytown, Texas, hydrogen technologies, nViro waste management and the CFX advanced oxidation system for destroying PFAS. Honeywell Performance plus Services and Honeywell Forge integrate process technology, automation and software for plant optimisation, supported by a UOP portal for technical publications and 24/7 help, plus training, troubleshooting and lifecycle services. Honeywell has announced the acquisition of Johnson Matthey's Catalyst Technologies business to expand its catalyst and renewable fuels capabilities, and Guidehouse Insights has named Honeywell UOP a leader in point-source carbon capture.
