About Carbon Neutral Fuels

Carbon Neutral Fuels develops plants that make electrofuels for aviation and shipping in the United Kingdom. It has offices in London and Manchester and is working on projects in the UK and Australia.

The company aims to replace fossil fuels with fuel made from air, water and clean energy. It focuses on power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel, which it calls eSAF. Its plants use SOEC and Fischer-Tropsch technology. The customers it names include airlines, logistics companies, investors and communities.

Project Starling is its first plant. It is planned for Workington in West Cumbria. The plant is designed to make 31,000 tonnes of eSAF a year and is due to launch in 2031. The project won two UK Advanced Fuels Fund competitions. The company has also invited local residents to view early plans for the site.

Project Kestrel is the next step. It is a design for a larger plant in the North-East that would make 100,000 tonnes of eSAF a year. That is four times the size of Starling. Project Osprey is a consortium of end users and feedstock suppliers. It is working on a clean marine fuel project in Scotland, using bio and e-methanol.

Outside the UK, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Energy Estate to advance a sustainable aviation fuel project in Queensland. It has also joined Bioenergy Australia as it moves forward with its first Australian project. It invites site owners and feedstock suppliers to talk about partnerships.

Carbon Neutral Fuels works with partners including Johnson Matthey, Topsoe, Honeywell and the Port of Workington. In 2025 it won a Pro-Manchester Trailblazing Tech award and was a finalist for an iCHEMe sustainability award. In 2026 it was named one of the North West's most exciting companies.
