Lightspeed Aviation

ANR aviation headsets and helmet systems, Lake Oswego, Oregon

About Lightspeed Aviation

Lightspeed Aviation designs and manufactures active noise reduction (ANR) aviation headsets and aviation helmet systems at its headquarters in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The company introduced its first product, the K series ANR headset, at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in 1996. In 2022 it added a category of headsets with built-in safety features on top of its audio and ANR platform, and it describes its mission as creating products that protect and save lives.

Headsets

  • Zulu 4: the latest Zulu ANR headset, with dual Bluetooth, processing that the site says removes up to 90% of background noise on outgoing Bluetooth audio, a 10% longer mic boom and FrameFit ear seals for pilots who wear glasses or hats
  • Delta Zulu: ANR headset with built-in carbon monoxide detection and customisable hearing profiles; a Rotax-specific ANR and audio profile is listed as coming soon
  • Zulu 3: the earlier Zulu model, still sold
  • Helmet products for aviation

History

The site traces the range from the K series in 1996 to the XL series, which introduced Auto Shutoff in 2000, and the Thirty 3G in 2003, which added wired music and cell phone input, intercom priority muting and a treble and bass setting. The first Zulu followed in 2007 with Bluetooth. Later models included Sierra, an ANR headset at a lower price point, and Tango, which the company describes as the first wireless aviation headset. The Delta Zulu then introduced CO detection and hearing profiles.

Other products

Lightspeed also sells pilot supplies, including the Adventure Flight Bag Collection and the Lightspeed Aviation Survival Kit, along with headset accessories.
