HeliLadder
Modular MX5 maintenance ladders and platforms for helicopters and aircraft
About HeliLadder
HeliLadder is a product line of Blue Moon Designs, LLC, a Bend, Oregon company founded in 2014 by Dale and Susie Neubauer that makes modular, portable maintenance ladders and work platforms for helicopters, aeroplanes and drones. Dale Neubauer drew on 30 years of aircraft maintenance experience, much of it on air ambulances, to design what the company calls the world's first modular and portable workstand, with the aim of improving access to the upper airframe and rotor system and so raising maintenance efficiency and mission availability. All design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly take place in Bend, and the company supplies both civilian equipment and DoD-approved versions with NSNs.
MX5 Modular System
- A cantilevered 5-foot base unit with wide rungs, safety handrails, protective bumpers and padding, ball-bearing wheels and a three-piece interchangeable tool tray set, usable on its own for access to the transmission deck, engine and tail-rotor driveshaft
- Extensions that raise the working height for access to upper flight controls, rotorhead, tail rotor and blades, selected to suit the aircraft, task and technician
- A single-person Service Deck with guardrails, safety gates, a laptop tray and an 11-inch booster step for heavier maintenance or extra fall protection
- The three-person Maintenance Platform System (MXPS) for heavy maintenance, fully collapsible for storage, transport or field deployment
- Extension Base Unit (EBU+), Retractable Wheel Kit (+RWK) and walk-through extensions, all finished in high-visibility anti-corrosion powder coating
Safety and compliance
- Exceeds ANSI structural and stability requirements and provides OSHA-compliant access to most single and twin-engine helicopters
- Quotes tailored to aircraft type, external oxygen or nitrogen tanks, emergency flotation systems and ramp or dolly parking
- SAM registered as Blue Moon Designs, LLC with CAGE code 74XB0 and primary NAICS 332999
Background
Dale Neubauer was the primary contributor to the CAMTS maintenance standards for hospital aviation and supported UH-72 medevac aircraft as an Airbus field service representative. The company says its equipment is used by professional mechanics, flight programmes and every branch of the US military, offers a downloadable information PDF, and typically provides quotes within one to three business days.
