Firefly Aerospace

Firefly Aerospace is a space and defence technology company that launches, lands and operates space systems from Earth to the Moon and beyond. It has more than 1,500 employees and works from sites that include its spacecraft facility in Cedar Park, Texas, its Rocket Ranch test site in Briggs, Texas, and its launch team at Vandenberg. The company says its mission is to enable launch, landing and operation in space anywhere and at any time.

Its website describes three main vehicle families, a small launch vehicle, a lunar lander and an in-space vehicle.

• Alpha: a rocket that Firefly calls the only operational US rocket in the 1,000 kg class, with upcoming missions for Lockheed Martin, the US Space Force and NASA
• Blue Ghost: a lunar lander that the company says is the first and only commercial spacecraft to land and operate successfully on the Moon, with several more missions under contract
• Elytra: multi-mission vehicles for in-space manoeuvres and services, described as highly mobile and scalable spacecraft

Recent company news

The news list includes an expanded contract for its SciTec business with the US Air Force to add counter-UAS data to the Advanced Battle Management System, a signing of Starcloud as a commercial customer for data centre capabilities around the Moon, a new cleanroom to accelerate spacecraft production, and a contract with SSC Space for two Alpha launches from the Esrange Space Center in Sweden.
