Beyond Gravity

Beyond Gravity is a Swiss space company based in Zurich. It makes structures, electronics and other products for launch vehicles and satellites.

The company says it has supplied products for hundreds of space missions over 60 years. It was called RUAG Space until 2022. In 2009 the former RUAG Space bought the space work of Saab Space, Austrian Aerospace and Oerlikon Space. Beyond Gravity is part of RUAG International Holding AG, and the Swiss Confederation holds all of its shares. About 1,900 people work at 12 sites in six countries: Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, the USA, Finland and Portugal.

For launch vehicles, the company supplies structures that it says have flown on more than 400 launches. Its launcher products include payload fairings, interstage adapters, heat shields and launcher computers. It also makes separation systems, such as modular payload adapters and satellite dispensers. Other lines are sounding rocket guidance systems and testing services. Launch service providers, including those behind the European Ariane and Vega rockets, use its products. It also supplies parts for American and Japanese launch systems.

For satellites, Beyond Gravity offers nearly every core element except propulsion. Electronic products include antennas, computers and data handling, drive electronics, microwave equipment, navigation receivers, onboard data networks, power conditioning and distribution units, and radio occultation instruments. Mechanical products include satellite structures, slip rings and mechanisms such as solar array drives. Thermal control products cover cryogenic, launcher and satellite insulation. Ground support items include satellite containers, clampbands and trolleys, and the company also offers space data solutions.

The company says its computers have more than 3,500 years in orbit and that its navigation receivers come from nearly three decades of experience. Its microwave equipment includes more than 1,300 units for telecom satellites. Customers are both commercial and institutional, and the company also works with space start-ups.
