Exel Composites
Pultruded composite profiles and tubes for defence, transport and energy
About Exel Composites
Exel Composites makes composite profiles and tubes using pultrusion and pull-winding. The company is headquartered in Finland and is listed on Nasdaq Helsinki. It says it is one of the largest makers in its field and a forerunner in pultrusion technology.
The company employs more than 600 people around the world. It has a global network for sales, manufacturing and research and development. It says it has served industries in over 50 countries for more than 60 years. Its aim is to help customers save resources, cut weight, improve performance and energy efficiency, and lower the total cost over the life of a product.
Pultrusion is a continuous process that makes profiles with fibres lined up along their length, together with mats and veils. Pull-winding adds fibres wound in a spiral as well as along the length. The company also works with laminates. Its range includes composite tubes, conductor cores, insulated rail joints, sheet piles, and standard structural profiles.
Exel serves many markets. In transportation, it makes profiles and panels for buses and coaches, trucks and trailers, trains and trams, and cars. In buildings, it makes fibreglass window and door profiles, structural profiles and sun shades. In wind power, its composites help turbines become more powerful and economical. In telecommunications, it supplies long-life composite solutions for 5G networks.
In infrastructure, the company makes frangible composite supports for airports, such as lighting masts. It also makes corrosion-resistant products for water and wastewater treatment, and rail solutions. Defence customers use its camouflage net support poles and other composite equipment that works in tough conditions to military standards. Machinery uses include light carbon fibre arms for delta robots and insulating parts for electric motors and generators. Other products include telescoping poles, carbon fibre tool handles, and parts for agriculture, oil and gas, and photography.
The strategy has four points. Exel wants organic growth in energy transition and decarbonisation. It wants more value for customers. It has set up two business units and larger factories to improve profit. It also aims for annual revenue of over EUR 200 million within five years. Sales contacts are listed for the Americas, Australia, Austria, Benelux, Germany, France, Italy and the UK, among others.
