Elistair
Tethered drone systems for persistent aerial intelligence
About Elistair
Elistair is a French maker of tethered drone systems for surveillance, protection and tactical communications. It was founded by Guilhem de Marliave and Timothee Penet, who won the first prize of the Alliance Startup Challenge in San Francisco. Its website says tethered drones give continuous aerial information in demanding environments, and that its systems are compatible with more than 50 drone platforms, including the DJI M30, and are used by first responders in over 70 countries.
Products
- Orion: the Orion 1 was the first fully automated complete tethered drone system able to fly for 12 hours, and the Orion 2 raised endurance to 50 hours. The Orion 2.1 completed its first uninterrupted 50 hour flight
- Khronos: a push-button tethered drone for tactical ISR missions, deployed from a transportable drone box in under two minutes, which rapidly reaches 60 metres and can remain airborne for 50 hours. It has been deployed from a French Navy frigate, and a Khronos Dual Payload version targets tactical communications missions
- Safe-T 2 and Tundra 2: a combined solution with Hexadrone for rapid deployment, continuous power and persistent tactical communications at 100 metres altitude with payloads of up to 5 kg
History
Elistair obtained its first patent for power management technology and delivered the world's first tethered drone station to Thales. The US Army chose its solution for persistent security operations, and the UK Ministry of Defence selected the Orion as an ISR solution for the Royal Marines. Paris Police used the Orion for overwatch during the Ryder Cup. The company opened offices in Boston, its primary market, and in Abidjan, raised 7 million euro in a Series B round with Omnes Capital, and passed the milestone of 1,000 products sold worldwide for defence and security operations. It later moved to a 1,600 square metre facility that includes a 600 square metre production area.
Customers
Police officers quoted on its site, including the chief of police at the University of Montana and a lieutenant at the Arlington Police Department, say tethered flights gave them situational awareness and saved time on battery changes.
