Azalea Robotics
ARC 1 autonomous baggage handling cobot for airport bagrooms
About Azalea Robotics
Azalea Robotics builds robots that handle baggage at airports. Its mobile units can load both unit load devices (ULDs) and baggage carts. The company calls its approach physical AI. The goal is to move every bag with a system that is reliable, autonomous and safe.
The robots do four main jobs. For loading and unloading, vision-guided robots move bags between belts, carts, ULDs and containers. For sortation, they hand bags off between inbound and outbound belts and ULD operations. They read tags and barcodes and check each bag in real time to cut down on misloads. For fleet management, the company offers tracking and efficiency tools that work through baggage source message (BSM) links. For safety and compliance, the robots use collaborative motion and emergency stops designed around ramp rules.
Azalea says its units fit many bag rooms. They work with ULDs, narrow body carts, ICS, flat belts and carousels. Airports can scale a deployment up or down as their operation changes. There is no fixed capital expense.
The company lists several benefits for airports. Flights are less likely to run late because of bags that arrive late. AI-powered tracking and routing help follow each bag. Workers face fewer strains and stress injuries. Azalea also reports zero lost or damaged bags, nonstop 24/7 operation and more than 98 percent of bags that its robots can transfer.
Azalea's team includes alumni of NASA, Google X and United Airlines. The company says that mix covers autonomy at moonshot scale and ramp work at major U.S. hubs. It introduced ARC 1, which it describes as a fully mobile baggage manipulator cobot.
Azalea announced a seed round of 3.5 million dollars. It also took part in Y Combinator Demo Day S24, and TechCrunch covered the company. Its customers are airports, and it welcomes calls from operators with ULD or cart-based bag rooms.
